It's been a good two weeks for Bayview's club champion Nadina Taylor. Representing her State in the interstate series at Brisbane Golf Club playing No.1 and No.3, she put in a commendable performance although the team came second to the host State.

Taylor followed that experience with a win in the national junior foursomes title at neighbouring club Indooroopilly when she teamed with Nikki Campbell for the two-round event.

It proved a good warm-up with Taylor's game primed for a good score where she duly opened up qualifying in the Australian junior singles title at the same course with a 69. A disappointing 80, for 149, relegated her to third spot for the matchplay where she defeated Muirfield's Alison Wheels two-up and Renee Kerrin (Charlestown) at the 18th hole in the quarterfinals.

Luck wasn't with her in the semifinals. Another close match didn't swing her way when the younger 15-year-old sensation Gloria Park won on the first extra hole.

Park, who was absent from the State team the week earlier, made up for her omission when she easily won the Shell Week of Golf which is played over five different courses with the finishing round at the tough Riverside Oaks layout.

It's a busy first week in February for the LGU with the staging of the popular summer foursomes. Division One for players with handicaps of scratch to 20 will tee up at the NSW Golf Club while Division Two (21-32) will tackle the Warringah layout next Thursday.

The top eight qualifying pairs in each division will then play the matchplay format the following day.

A solid 58 pairs are entered.

Northsiders have a chance to get a little closer to the action next month. The Canon Challenge is calling for volunteers to assist over its four days, beginning February 22. Call Gwen Flynn-Pye on 9939 6500.
